What is the difference between WA, WA+ and All Risk?

What is the difference between WA, WA+ and All Risk?

In the Netherlands, car insurance is divided into three main categories: WA, WA+ and All Risk. Understanding the difference between these options is essential if you want to choose the right policy for your vehicle and avoid paying too much or being underinsured.

WA insurance is the minimum level of cover required by law. It covers damage you cause to others, including their car, property or injuries. It does not cover damage to your own vehicle. Because it offers the least protection, it is usually the cheapest option and is often chosen for older vehicles.

WA+ is the middle option. It includes everything covered by WA and adds protection for certain events that are outside your control. This often includes theft, fire, storm damage, broken windows and damage caused by animals. However, it still does not cover damage to your own car after an accident you caused yourself.

All Risk is the most comprehensive option. It includes the cover from WA and WA+ and also pays for damage to your own vehicle, even if the accident was your fault. This makes it a popular choice for newer cars, leased cars and vehicles with a higher value.

The best option depends on your car and your budget. If your vehicle is older and has limited value, WA may be enough. If your car still has value and you want protection against theft or storm damage, WA+ can be a strong balance. If you want maximum security and would struggle to pay for damage yourself, All Risk is often the most suitable choice.
