All Risk insurance gives the most complete level of cover available for private cars in the Netherlands. It includes liability cover, protection against theft and fire, and cover for damage to your own car even if you caused the accident yourself. That sounds attractive, but it also raises an important question: is it worth the extra cost?
For many drivers, the answer depends on the car. If your vehicle is new, financed, leased or still has a high market value, All Risk can make strong financial sense. Repair or replacement costs can be substantial, and broader insurance may protect you from a large unexpected expense.
For older vehicles, the calculation is different. If the car is worth relatively little, paying a significantly higher premium may not always be logical. In those cases, WA or WA+ may offer a better balance between cost and protection.
You should also consider your personal risk tolerance. Could you afford to repair or replace your own car if you damage it yourself? If that would create a financial problem, the extra premium for All Risk may be worth the peace of mind.
Another factor is how and where you use your car. Frequent driving, busy city traffic and street parking can all increase the chance of damage. The more exposure your vehicle has, the more attractive broader cover may become.
All Risk is not automatically the best option for everyone, but it can be the most practical choice for the right car and the right situation.
